Understanding Readability: The Flesch-Kincaid Score
The Flesch-Kincaid readability tests are the most widely used readability formulas in the world, developed in 1975 by J. Peter Kincaid under contract to the U.S. Navy. They consist of two related scores: the Flesch Reading Ease score and the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level.

How Syllable Counting Works — And Why It Matters
Syllable count is a key input to readability formulas. A syllable is a unit of pronunciation that contains a vowel sound. For example, "read" has 1 syllable, "reading" has 2, and "readability" has 5.
