Our Privacy Promise
At TextTally, we take your privacy seriously. Our tool is designed from the ground up to be privacy-first. Below we explain exactly what data we collect and how we use it.
1. No Data Collection on Your Text
TextTally processes all text entirely in your browser. We use zero server-side processing for word counting, character counting, or any text analysis. Your text is never sent to our servers, stored, logged, or shared with third parties. When you click "Save," your text is stored in your browser's LocalStorage — a secure client-side storage mechanism that only your browser can access.
2. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. This helps us improve the user experience. Google Analytics collects anonymous usage data such as page views, session duration, and browser type. It does not have access to your typed text. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using browser extensions like Google's opt-out add-on.
3. Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display non-intrusive advertisements on our site. AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to serve relevant ads based on your browsing history. You can manage your ad personalization preferences at Google Ad Settings.
4. Cookies
TextTally uses minimal cookies: Google Analytics sets first-party cookies for analytics, and Google AdSense may set cookies for ad personalization. We do not use any other tracking cookies. Our theme and font size preferences are stored in LocalStorage, not cookies.
5. Third-Party Links
Our site contains affiliate links to third-party tools like Grammarly and Hemingway Editor. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before using their services.
6. Data Retention
We do not store any personal data on our servers. Any data stored in your browser's LocalStorage (saved text, theme preferences) can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser cache or using the "Clear" button.
7. Affiliate Disclosure
Some pages on TextTally contain affiliate links, including our Recommended Tools page and certain blog posts. This means we may earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. These commissions help support the continued development and free availability of TextTally.
We only recommend products and services that we have thoroughly researched and believe provide genuine value to writers. Our recommendations are not influenced by affiliate partnerships — every tool is chosen based on its quality and relevance to our audience.
Affiliate links are clearly marked on pages that contain them, and our footer includes a disclosure notice on all pages with affiliate content.
8. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or our affiliate relationships, please contact us.
